Sunday Morning - 1.24.13 - Running

But Jonah ran away from the Lord and headed for Tarshish . . .  After paying the fare, he went aboard and sailed for Tarshish to flee from the Lord.

Jonah 1:3 NIV

And still today, we run from the Lord.

Avoiding His salvation.

Or following in His path.

Or learning His will for us, hearing a result of surrender.

And there's always a "fare" to pay when we go our own way, right?!

I am ashamed to confess that I, too, struggle with this, and yet I throw myself again and again on His mercy ~

And find Him waiting for me. Lovingly, He accepts me and continues patiently with His training.

Agape.

  1. So true Mary! With everything that we have gone through in the last few months (Lia being taken from us) I too have thrown myself at our Lord's feet and pray for mercy. His constant love is what has gotten me through this. I find my inner strength from him. (2 Corinthians 5:7
We live by faith, not by sight)

  5. Visiting from Deidra's place this morning. I'm so glad I came by!

Always a "fare" when we go our own way. What a great way to think of it.

  6. I actually read Jonah this morning. In some ways, he was truly walking with the Lord [not just this book, but historically speaking in his nation], and other times he exploded the wrong direction out of anger. It's pretty important to not let anger and frustration overtake the call of God to serve Him in a particular place, over particular people ... even when the "people and place" doesn't fit into our desire. I sure need to trust Him more than I can trust me. [DUH!]

  8. God is still merciful to forgive us and He didn't see our weaknesses.

  9. I love this little writing and I also love the way 'God' gave us examples of others who didn't do what he said to do, so we perhaps can learn from them and do different.

  15. It's no fun when you have to pay your own fair!

  16. I don't think I have ever caught that.... Jonah had to pay his own fare to flee. How often am I wondering why I'm spent when I'm gallavanting in disobedience?

Great post! Thanks for linking up at Into the Word Wednesday. :)

    1. I just caught it when writing this post - it must be important that he "paid his fare" because it's in the Bible. Lesson learned (again ... and again).

  18. Whether the deepest oceans, the farthest reaches of the universe, or the atom sized world inside living cells we cannot escape Him or the signs of his handiwork. Yet, we find so many ways to put Him and his teachings on the back burner of our lives. In mixed company, among the spiritually lost, don't we often times fail to stand up for Him? Aren't there times when we even kind of act like He doesn't exist just to get along? It's a wonder that He does it but he constantly, patiently has his arms open wide for us at all. We need only accept his invitation of eternal grace.
